Case Study: Bridging the Divide between an Agile Development Group and a Waterfall Business Group

Even when there is wide support for Agile methods of development, teams often face a clash of philosophies when it comes to commitments to the business. We also know it is not easy to change a long established business culture. You are not going to take a company that is used to planning a whole years worth of work from a business perspective and expect them to act in line with Lean principles overnight.

In this session I will introduce my group's history, the special circumstances that lead us to a Lean Kanban inspired agile process, and what problems we are dealing with as we shift from a startup mentality to being a product group in a large (Fortune 15) company.

The majority of my talk will focus on our use of Monte Carlo Simulation techniques for the purpose of creating predictive models and clearly reporting variance in ways the business can understand. The techniques are based on the High Maturity CMMI key practice areas, but this will not be a CMMI talk.
